In a world that is constantly evolving, women are stepping into positions that challenge the status quo and are changing what it means to lead.
Let's explore the remarkable stories of women who are the new role models for next generations, shattering current stereotypes.
From innovative entrepreneurs, to fearless activists, these exceptional individuals are fighting for change, and proving amazing things can occur when women stand by one another.
Join us as we celebrate the beauty of female leadership and explore the journeys of those who are making a lasting impact in different industries and beyond.
With more women entering leadership roles in 2025, there is opportunity for better solutions and inclusive environments. I particularly want to take a look at women figures working in science, business and fashion - three huge sectors!
Women in STEM
This year saw the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science. It is celebrations like this that serve as inspiration for younger girls looking at female representation in STEM fields. It shows that women, too can be high achievers.
I feel as though it is necessary to talk about Gitanjali Rao, an individual who has made leaps and bounds in her scientifical journey. She is a young inventor who received a lot of attention as TIME’s ‘Kid of the Year’ in 2020. Some of her achievements:
- Creating a device to detect lead in drinking water.
- Actively promoting stem education for younger girls, encouraging careers in science and technology.
- Creating partnerships with different networks to serve as a message for the potential of young women in STEM.
“Science needs all available hands and intellects to come together to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.”
I was particularly inspired by Roe’s ‘Ted talk’ that she presented at just thirteen years old in which she discusses the creation of her device to help solve India’s water crisis.
She explains the importance of everyone, especially more women, coming together to make a difference in science - whether it's mentoring younger people in their own areas or helping towards fundraising for further research - definitely worth a listen.
Gitanjali Roe may be young, but her impact sure is mighty; She embodies the importance of female empowerment in STEM, where visibility matters even more now.
Women in Business
The Business industry is a competitive one, but that has not stopped the likes of entrepreneur, Whitney Wolfe Herd, founder of Bumble. I was drawn to her idea of putting women at the forefront of her business plans. Bumble was founded in 2014, and allows women to make the first move, initiating conversations and giving them control- what a power move!
Bumble has influenced dating culture by putting forward the idea that women can be proactive in dating themselves, normalising the girl going for the guy. It also has expanded into networking and quite simply... friendships!
From reading the BBC article written about Herd’s rise to becoming the ‘girl boss’, her story is somewhat wonderful; she turned her own downfall, (suing tinder for sexual harassment) into a business proposition that solely uplifts women.
“For all the advances women had been making in workplaces and corridors of power, the gender dynamics of dating and romance still seemed so outdated.”
The impact of women in business is vast and women like Whitney Herd proves this; over 80 million swipes are made daily on Bumble with usage in over 90 countries- now that is huge!
Women in Fashion
It is currently a very exciting time for fashion with so many strong female voices! I believe the industry has become a better platform for women to express themselves how they want as more brands are redefining the set beauty standards.
One woman who I really want to talk about is Adut Akech, a model originally from South Sudan who moved to Australia as a refugee to begin her career at a young age. She is significant not just because of her runway skills, but also because of her dedication to social justice and representation.
Her feature in the very renowned ‘Harper's Bazaar’ stands out to me as she talks about maintaining positivity after the pandemic in 2020. From navigating hardship to ending up collaborating with high-end labels such as Chanel, Versace and Valentino, Adut Akech’s story shows that success is achievable no matter what the starting position may be. She serves as an inspiration to many aspiring women in fashion.
“I’ve learnt to fight for what I believe in, learning my truth and standing my ground.”
So, what can we take from all of this?
With just three examples of women thriving in their own fields, I hope this article serves as a reminder that whether it be in fashion, education, business or in general leadership, women empowering other women is a magnificent thing. In 2025, our potential is limitless.
